Notes from the Atelier

Hello!

I'm Daphne, Camille's mom and the founder & designer of Camille Bon Bon.

The Beginning of Camille Bon Bon
Why I Started This Brand

Before Camille, I had another baby—my first business, POND Los Angeles. It began with a simple idea: a beautiful leather diaper bag that didn’t scream “diaper bag.” At the time, I was thinking about starting a family, but the road ahead would be far from simple.

Conceiving was a long, painful journey through IVF. When Camille finally arrived, we were overjoyed—but the exhaustion hit fast. She barely napped, needed constant holding, and by six weeks old, developed cradle cap that turned into severe eczema. We shuffled between pediatricians and dermatologists, desperate for answers. Nothing helped.

On a hunch—and against the advice of our doctor—I brought her to an allergist. The results were overwhelming. She was sensitive to so many things, and while many doctors dismissed the link between eczema and food allergies, I saw the truth on her skin: hives, vomiting, rashes—every time we tried something new.

This was during the formula shortage. We tried ten different kinds, hunting each one down like it was a rare Labubu figure. I became obsessed with ingredients, textiles, and anything that touched Camille’s body.

That’s when I noticed something that shocked me: so much baby clothing, especially sleepwear, was made from synthetic materials. Camille ran hot, and every layer seemed to make things worse. My mom lovingly wrapped her like a little dumpling, but I knew she needed breathability. So I sewed her some sleep sacks from 100% cotton.

That moment—the intersection of my training as a designer and my instincts as a mother—was the start of Camille Bon Bon.

From Sleep Sacks to a Clothing Line

Sewing those first cotton sleep sacks felt like something clicked. It wasn't just about eczema relief—it was about creating something with intention. As a designer, I’d spent years working with luxury brands like Ralph Lauren and Armani. I knew fabric. I knew fit. But motherhood gave me a new lens: sensitivity, practicality, and the desperate need for softness—inside and out.

Camille was still itchy, still red, still crying—but she was more comfortable in those cotton layers. It became my mission: to find natural fibers that didn’t just soothe, but felt beautiful. As she grew, she wanted frilly dresses—princess moments—but everything we found was polyester, scratchy, stiff. That didn’t sit right with me.

So I started sketching again. This time for Camille. I sourced organic, breathable cotton from local mills. I created matching pieces for moms like me, who wanted to move, carry, chase, cuddle—and still feel beautiful. Every piece was designed with care, deep pockets, soft seams, and even a hidden AirTag pocket—because motherhood is stylish, but it’s also practical.

Camille Bon Bon was born not in a boardroom, but in the quiet chaos of postpartum nights and pediatric waiting rooms. It's an homage to the little girl who taught me how to design with heart.

Thank you for being here.

Warmly,
Daphne
